![]() The case was finally put to rest when I saw the cover of volume 34 up close. Below, although it’s hard, you can glimpse brownish hues in his otherwise black eyes. It’s also likely that his eyes are a darker brown. However, given the heavily stylized nature of the picture and the fact that his hair seems to be a greenish brown instead of black (while Zoro’s and Nami’s hair colours are the same), its canonical status is disputable. In the below (beautiful) colour spread, his eyes are hazel, not unlike Trafalgar Law’s. If it keeps going on like this, I thought, maybe we’ll just have to accept that Luffy’s eye colour is, simply – black. Luffy’s big eyes are coloured black in nearly every picture I’ve seen, even extreme close ups. For these reasons, finding out his eye colour should be easy, but it was frustratingly difficult. (Just message me if you’re interested!)Īlso: If you think this is totally boring and stupid, just ignore it!Īs the main character, Luffy is the one most often depicted in artwork, and frequently at the center. I’ll mostly stay out of using the anime or movies for reference, since the manga is a higher source of canon (in my book anyway). I may update this post in the future if I get new information on the subject, and feel free to tell me if you know something I don’t! I’ll be able to provide sources for each picture so that you can see better for yourself if there is demand for it. This may be of help to fan artists, colourists and fanfic writers who wish to stay as true to canon as possible. After some intense study I’ve been able to figure out the eye colours of most (but not all) of the Straw Hats, listed below. Although, in certain scenes – especially when the characters are serious, determined, or emotional, and sometimes just because it’s a close up – the men’s irises can be seen and are thus coloured in Eiichiro Oda’s artwork. ![]() As you should know, Eiichiro Oda draws his characters with small, black dot eyes, except for most of the women (whose irises are clearly visible, particularly since the post-timeskip art evolution).
